Mid-May in Columbia County (2012)

Headed out into the hills and bottom lands of Columbia County on the 19th and 20th.  Came across a total of 82 species.  Finally saw that damn nemesis Dipper at Bonnie Falls after at least a dozen attempts.  Couldn’t find the Hermit Warblers, but did add a Black-throated Gray to the coast range list.

On Saturday, along the Crown Z trail, i witnessed a first for me.  There were multiple flocks of Band-tailed Pigeons moving overhead at a fairly regular interval.  I counted 10 flocks varying from three to thirty birds for a total count of 144!  There was undoubtedly many more than that, as i did not keep my eyes to the skies the whole time.

Sunday turned out to be more of a scouting trip into many new areas because it was raining most of the time.  I went into the Marshland bottoms and turned up a couple of recently fledged Owls.
